The Apparent Project Service Retreat Center
Eventually the Apparent Project would like to develop a guest house for short term teams, visiting adoptive families, and people seeking restoration. We know that seeing Haiti in person is the best way of drawing individuals into a lasting commitment of service to the poor. A guest house would provide a base for service teams that would allow us to make more significant infrustructural changes in the slums and ravines. Large projects such as road repair, well drilling, and housing development are not feasible without the man power and contributed labor that service teams provide.
A guest house would also provide a cheap, safe, and intimate setting for adoptive families to bond and play. Port Au Prince hotels are either too expensive or unsafe, and none of them caters well to families with children. The guest house would be attentive to the needs of these families and offer a place for them to dialogue and encourage each other if multiple adoptive families or an orphanage wanted to schedule a shared visit.
The Apparent Project guest house would also serve as a
retreat center for individuals seeking prayer, counseling, and inner healing. These personal renewal and reflection retreats would incorporate service to the poor as part of the process through which counselees pursue God's restoring touch. The core of the counseling experience would be accompanied listening prayer with a trained prayer counselor. We would also like to establish a holisitic healing team to help counselees with a broad range of psychological, intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and physical needs. This team would serve the local poor, missionaries, Apparent artisans, and visiting teams as well.
