Educational NeedsAs the Apparent Project staff has built relationships in the slum areas of our community, we have realized the overwhelming scale of Haiti's educational problems. There are very few public schools in Haiti. Even if a family has enough money to pay for their child's education, the loosely monitored schools can often just be money rackets to take advantage of the uneducated poor. Many children are forced by dwindling funds to drop out after the 1st or 2nd grade, barely able to write their names. These children turn into illiterate teenagers who have little possibility of going back to recover their lost educational years. At one time we had a small school to address these needs amongst the kids in our community, but funding and staffing needs prevent us from continuing with this effort. Instead, we are working with other missions with strong educational programs, continuing to help parents work to pay for their childrens' education, and finding sponsors to help some of our local children pay for their education in various schools in our area. If you would like to support a mission with a strong, well run educational program in Haiti, please consider one of the following organizations. We wholeheartedly advocate for these missions' great work with kids: TLC BAREFOOT SCHOOL We still have dreams of educational job-development programs such as computer literacy classes and fine arts education for artists with marketable potential and bored amateurs who need something positive to occupy their time. Please sponsor a student if you would like to help out!
