Healing the Sick
While we are not primarily a medical relief organization, the Apparent Project is dedicated to providing whatever medical treatment, personal assistance, encouragement, and prayer that we can for the sick and wounded that we meet each day. Small things like headaches, ringworm, indigestion, yeast infections, and bladder infections can feel insurmountable to a Haitian person who can not afford treatment or who hasn't been given a basic education in health and physiology. We keep a small pharmacy regularly stocked and frequently go into the community to see how people are doing. We have often served as a kind of ambulance service for women with labor complications, babies who are nearly dying, elderly people with dangerously high blood pressure, or people with some other grave condition. In such cases we pay for hospital care, while less urgent needs are treated by our staff, using supplies that we keep on hand. We also keep an eye on families at medical risk because of inadequate water or basic nutrition, providing what we can for emergency needs and creating employment opportunities for families with more needs than resources. Artisan sponsorships, visiting clinics, and donated medical supplies provide the resources for this kind of emergency medical care.
