How to help Haiti

Haiti is the western hemisphere's poorest nation, with few paved roads, dangerously scarce access to clean water, and a notoriously high level of corruption. Add to this the negative consequences of a history full of war, destruction of the ecosystem, and the social effects of slavery and many throw their hands in the air as if this nation is hopeless.

Yet, many wonderful things are being done to help Haiti and if enough people band together, lasting change is inevitable. The Apparent Project is specifically addressing the predicament of orphans and the employment crisis, but we are not big enough to meet all of the needs we see around us. That is why we encourage people to not just contribute to our mission, but to also visit Haiti to get a vision for how their particular gifts might benefit this nation. We also proudly produce free videos to promote the work of other missions that we see doing wonderful things. In addition, we keep a list of missions that we find particularly helpful and resourceful. Our audio & video pages also provide resources for learning more about excellent missions and service groups who are helping Haiti! We want to see the Kingdom of God come "on earth as it is in Heaven" and this requires action, prayer, and teamwork.

The Haitian Flag bears the motto, "L' Union Fait la Force" which means, "Our unity makes us strong". The truth is that the various groups that seek to aid Haiti often slip into attitudes of exclusivity, competition, and pride in their various doctrines or approaches to providing aid. It is our prayer that God would put a deep longing for unity in the hearts of Haiti's missionaries and service groups, so that the work that needs to be done could be done with more strength and wisdom, and so that resources could be shared. The long standing failure to do this, we believe, is both a natural and a supernatural problem, so your prayers are vital to this effort. If you are a missionary or aid worker in Haiti, consider joining Hands Across Haiti to network, build unity, and share resources.
